Michael Olise came off the bench to help France beat Belgium 4-1 in the UEFA Nations League on Monday. This win gave Zinedine Zidane his first home victory since he became the coach.
Dodi Lukebakio put Belgium ahead in the first half. This goal made Belgium hopeful for their first competitive win over Les Bleus in 45 years at the Stade de France.
But France changed the game in a thrilling finish. They scored four goals in the last 13 minutes. This win kept Zidane's unbeaten record and brought them closer to the quarter-finals.
Desire Doue scored to level the match in the 77th minute with a low shot from the edge of the box. Four minutes later, Olise set up Rayan Cherki to put France ahead.
Olise then scored the third goal, sealing the win. He added a fourth in stoppage time, completing an amazing comeback for France.
France, who also beat Belgium 1-0 in Brussels last week thanks to another late goal from Olise, are now three points ahead of Italy at the top of Group A1. Belgium is another point behind. Italy won 3-1 against Turkey in Bologna, leaving Turkey with four straight losses.
Zidane made many changes to his team for this last match of the two-week international window. Only Dembele kept his spot among the 10 changes he made.
Manchester United defender Leny Yoro and Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes made their debuts for France. Ousmane Dembele captained the team again because Kylian Mbappe was injured.
Belgium missed two key players, Kevin De Bruyne and Youri Tielemans, due to suspension. They shocked France with a great pass from Romeo Lavia. This allowed Lukebakio to break through and score a fine goal.
Maarten Vandevoordt, who was making his debut as Belgium's goalkeeper, saved shots from Esteban Lepaul and Cherki as France pushed for an equaliser. But eventually, France found the back of the net.
Doue picked up the ball and shot quickly, beating Vandevoordt. Cherki then scored after Olise set him up, putting France in the lead as the Bayern Munich winger shone in the closing minutes.
Olise scored the third goal in the 88th minute and finished with a fourth after great skill from Doue to complete a fantastic turnaround.
