One dead, three hurt in Lagos car accident

One person has died and three others are badly hurt in a car accident involving a Lexus Jeep 350 on the Coastal Road heading to Eko Hotel, Lagos.

The crash happened earlier on Friday. A statement from Adebayo Taofiq, who is the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, confirmed this.

The statement said the grey Lexus Jeep, with the registration number LSD 554 KV, lost control, hit a roadside pole, and flipped over.

"Preliminary security information showed that the vehicle lost control, crashed into a roadside pole, and then overturned, which led to three serious injuries and one death," the statement noted.

LASTMA officials, who were monitoring traffic on the Coastal Road, quickly rushed to the scene. They secured the area and helped with emergency services.

"The three seriously injured victims were taken from the crash site with help from Good Samaritans and were rushed to Duck-Yard Hospital in the Military Zone for urgent care," the statement added.

Security officers from Victoria Island also came to help. LASTMA staff removed the wrecked vehicle from the road to avoid more accidents and to allow traffic to flow again.

Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased. He also urged drivers to be careful on the roads.

He warned that "speeding, reckless driving, and losing control of a vehicle can lead to serious and permanent harm for drivers and other road users."
