OPay Clears the Air on Shutdown Rumors, Assures Customers

Nigeria’s top mobile money service, OPay, has denied claims that it will go on a long, indefinite break starting from 1 September. The company made it clear that its operations will continue as usual.

In a statement released on Sunday, OPay urged customers to ignore the false post circulating on social media.

The misleading post said OPay would stop its operations on 1 September and would not process transactions until further notice. It also encouraged OPay users to withdraw their money quickly to avoid problems.

But OPay confirmed that there is no truth to the rumor about a shutdown. The company pointed out that the viral post had many signs showing it did not come from them.

OPay asked its customers to only trust information shared on its official pages. They also advised users to double-check social media posts before spreading them.

“OPay is not going on break in September. We’re here, and we’re going nowhere! True OPay users know how to identify our official communications.

“Take a closer look at the viral post, and you’ll spot the red flags. Always verify before you share. Filter the noise! Follow our official pages for authentic OPay updates,” OPay said.

This situation highlights the issues companies face on social media. Unauthorized people often pretend to be them to commit fraud and spread false information.
