Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen will return to play for Galatasaray against Kasımpaşa and Barcelona next month. He has been out for three matches due to an adductor muscle injury, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Osimhen got injured in the first half of Galatasaray’s 3-2 win over İstanbul Başakşehir on Friday. He scored the first goal with a strong shot into the top corner but had to leave the game in the 33rd minute. Barış Alper Yılmaz replaced him.
A report from Turkish outlet Le Marca Sports says a scan showed that Osimhen has a strain in his right adductor muscle. This injury will keep him out for three matches in all competitions.
He is expected to miss the UEFA Champions League match against Sporting Lisbon. He will also sit out Super Lig games against Kocaelispor and Trabzonspor. Osimhen should return for the Turkish Cup match against Kasımpaşa on October 11 and the Champions League game against Barcelona on October 13.
Galatasaray released a statement saying that Osimhen has a moderate-to-advanced strain with bleeding in his groin. He is not the only player affected, as midfielder Mario Lemina has a similar issue.
“After MR and advanced tests at our sponsor Acıbadem Hospital, we found an advanced-moderate level strain (bleeding and strain) in Victor Osimhen’s right adductor (groin) muscle group,” the club stated.
This injury is a setback for Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk. He will miss Osimhen in several matches across three competitions. It is also a concern for Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau later this month.
The 27-year-old Osimhen has scored six goals and made two assists in four matches for Galatasaray this season.
