Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, is deeply saddened by the death of Squadron Leader Ahamefule Aham Man-Ugwueje. Man-Ugwueje was one of the pilots of the Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft, NAF 931, which crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State, on Monday, 5 October.
In a statement on Tuesday from Ferdinand Ekeoma, his special adviser on media and publicity, Otti called the death of Squadron Leader Man-Ugwueje and the other military personnel on the plane painful and devastating.
The Governor said, “This accident is both painful and devastating, because it has brought untold sorrow and anguish to the victims’ families, their friends and loved ones, the Nigerian Air Force, and the nation at large.”
Otti expressed regret that Squadron Leader Man-Ugwueje died in the crash just two weeks after marrying his wife, Flight Lieutenant Damilola Adekunle, in Abuja. This tragic event has taken away the couple’s chance to enjoy their life together as husband and wife.
On behalf of his family, the Government, and people of Abia State, Otti extended his deepest condolences to the families of the victims. He also remembered the people of Umuahia, where Squadron Leader Man-Ugwueje came from, the Nigerian Air Force, and the Federal Government of Nigeria. He prayed for the peaceful repose of their souls in God’s care.
