One of the candidates for the Oyo Central Senatorial District ticket of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Ademola Alli, has promised to stay loyal to the party despite his concerns about the recent 2027 senatorial primary results.
Alli, in a statement titled, “Supporting Unity, Seeking Restitution: Standing With Our Party, Standing For Our Principles,” released in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Friday, called for unity and healing within the party.
He stated that he would not leave the APC or take part in any anti-party actions. He added that real reconciliation must address the worries of members who felt let down by the primary process.
The APC leader said, “I had consulted party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and loyalists on the way forward after the primary,” expressing gratitude to members in Oyo Central who supported his ambition.
“I purposely stayed neutral during the APC governorship primary, even though I have ties with various aspirants, because my main aim was to secure the Oyo Central senatorial ticket.
“I make this clear because my position today is not the result of any political deal from the gubernatorial contest. I remained neutral throughout that process.
“I met with the party’s reconciliation committee on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, where I shared my views and reaffirmed my loyalty to the APC while highlighting issues from the Oyo Central senatorial primary.
“Many of my supporters felt that the primary results did not reflect their choices well. They had put in their time, money, energy and political efforts into this process,” he explained.
The APC leader urged his supporters to stay calm and disciplined, warning them against letting disappointment turn into hatred or division within the party.
“I believe that being a party member means showing both loyalty and honesty. I remain dedicated to the APC and will not leave the party or encourage my supporters to undermine its candidates.
“I am not leaving the party, I do not agree with defection or anti-party actions, and I will not support my followers or associates in undermining the party or its candidates,” he insisted.
Alli argued that loyalty to the party should not mean members must ignore real concerns, saying, “Reconciliation should involve listening, acknowledgment, restitution, healing and rebuilding.
“By restitution, I do not mean that every primary outcome must be changed, but that real steps should be taken to address valid grievances, mend broken relationships and restore the trust of party members.”
He called grassroots members the backbone of the APC, stressing that their trust would be key to the party’s success in the 2027 elections.
The aspirant also congratulated Senator Sharafadeen Alli on becoming the APC’s governorship candidate in the state, describing their relationship as more than just politics.
He mentioned that he and the senator have a long-standing bond and are affectionately called “twin brothers” by some.
Alli urged the APC governorship candidate to use his position to connect with other aspirants, their supporters and stakeholders, adding, “The primary contests are over; our focus now is to unite the party and channel our energy towards winning in 2027.”
He further urged him to reach out to those who felt hurt or left out during the primary, saying this is a chance for the party to rebuild trust and give everyone a renewed sense of belonging.
“He has my goodwill as a friend, my prayers and my support as a loyal member of the APC.”
The former aspirant said that while his ambition to represent Oyo Central in the Senate ended with the primary, his commitment to the people of Oyo Central and Oyo State remains strong.
“The contest may be over, but the work of healing has just begun. We want unity, but not at the cost of truth. We want reconciliation, but not without restitution. We want peace, but not by silencing genuine grievances,” he added.
