Aggrieved All Progressives Congress House of Assembly aspirants in Oyo State have settled their differences with the party. They have agreed to support the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, in 2027.
Alhaji Mufutau Adisa, the Chairman of the state APC House of Assembly Reconciliation Committee, shared this news during a stakeholders’ meeting and press conference at the International Conference Centre in Ibadan on Sunday.
He explained that all the angry aspirants have decided to accept the party’s decision on the outcome of the primaries.
Adisa also said that the committee met with the aspirants individually. During these meetings, the aspirants shared their concerns and agreed to move on for the sake of the party.
PUNCH Online reports that some aspirants had protested after the candidates were chosen at the party’s primaries for various elective positions ahead of the 2027 elections. This situation led to the formation of reconciliation committees, including the House of Assembly Reconciliation Committee.
Adisa mentioned that while the aspirants had the right to express their dissatisfaction, the party’s interest should come first. He said, “During our interaction with the aspirants in their respective areas, they made known their grievances which formed the basis for the protest.
“The leadership of the APC respects the rights of not only the aspirants but the members as well, hence the reason for setting up the Reconciliation Committees to pacify members whose feelings have been injured.
“We thank the aggrieved aspirants and members for their resolve to drop their personal ambitions. We thank God we have resolved our grievances, and they have pledged their total support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and the state APC governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, come 2027,” the chairman stated.
While reading the communiqué, Co-Chairman of the committee, Abisoye Fagade, said, “The committee is pleased to report that the majority of the aspirants who participated in the primary election, including those who purchased nomination forms and those who did not, have shown great sportsmanship, maturity and commitment to the unity of the party.
“They have expressed their readiness to work harmoniously with one another and with the leadership of the party towards securing electoral victory for the APC in the 2027 general elections.
“The committee particularly commends the aspirants for placing the overall interest of the party above individual interests and for showing a willingness to work together to strengthen the APC across the state.”
Fagade also mentioned that a list of aspirants who took part in the primary election and agreed to work for the party's success across the 32 state House of Assembly constituencies in the state will be provided.
In his brief remarks, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, Co-Chairman of the state Gubernatorial Reconciliation Committee, emphasized the need for unity among the party members. He said, “I have won and lost elections for elective political offices in the past. I know what it takes. I feel your pains, but you have taken the right decision to work for the interest of the party.”
Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, another co-chairman of the committee, praised the aspirants for their decision to work with the party leadership. The committee consists of Alhaji Mufutau Adisa as Chairman, Aare Abisoye Fagade as Co-Chairman, and Dr Rotimi Oke-Owo as Secretary. Other members include Mrs Mabel Williams, Pa Sule Ajibade, Hon. Ramota Okemakinde, Hon. Raji Rasaki, Hon. Obatunde Oladapo, Hon. Kehinde Oloya, Hon. Segun Ajanaku, Hon. Shakiru Fagunwa, and Dr Gafar Salawudeen.
