A leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Otunba Segun Showunmi, has praised President Bola Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Mr Nyesom Wike. This follows his recent appointment to the Communication and Strategy Committee of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council.

Showunmi shared his appreciation in a video on Facebook on Wednesday. He also thanked the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, and the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, for helping him join the campaign council.

While supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid, Showunmi admitted that he had campaigned against the President in the past. But he changed his mind after seeing the positive direction of the President’s policies in the last three and a half years.

In his acceptance of the appointment, Showunmi thanked Tinubu for believing in him. He called his inclusion in the campaign team a chance to help the country grow. “I must, first of all, thank President Bola Tinubu for the confidence reposed in me and for considering me worthy of contributing to his campaign team as a member of the Communication and Strategy Committee,” he said.

Showunmi accepted the role with excitement. He explained that his choice to support the President came from his evaluation of the administration’s policies and plans for reform. “I have campaigned against him in the past, and now I want to campaign for him. The simple reason is that I do not even see this as a campaign for him alone, but perhaps as a campaign for our country,” he stated.

He expressed that he now believes Tinubu’s vision for Nigeria is correct. He added that he would have supported the President from the beginning if he had known that the administration would focus on the current policies. “We have reached a point in this nation where I am beyond convinced that the direction he has chosen to take the country is the right one. Had I known that this was the direction he intended to pursue when he started out, I would have campaigned for him,” Showunmi said.

His opinion comes from observing the administration for the past three and a half years, especially its attempts to bring about reforms and foster economic growth. He noted that the administration’s policies have received positive feedback from international financial bodies and organizations.

“Over the last three and a half years, I have watched him push very hard on all the important issues, complete the reforms and begin to move the country towards prosperity,” he said. Showunmi pointed out that the administration has gained support from global institutions like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

He expressed confidence in the President’s chances in the upcoming elections. He looks forward to an energetic campaign and promised to be actively involved in ensuring Tinubu’s success. “I look forward to a fantastic, interesting and well-coordinated campaign. The President is winning this, and he has just made it a whole lot easier by making me a member of this fantastic team,” he said.

He also praised Wike for introducing the idea of a “rainbow coalition.” He believes this will give politicians from various parties a chance to help build the nation. Showunmi said, “The President is winning this, he just made it a whole lot easier by making me a member of the fantastic team. Thank you, Mr. President, thank you, Mr. Dele Alake, thank you, Bayo Onanuga, thank you, Gov Dapo Abiodun, thank you, Mr Nyesom Wike for coming up with the concept of rainbow coalition that will allow people from other parties to contribute to nation building. I love you all Nigerians, let’s get ready to hit the ground running.”

He called on Nigerians to get ready for the campaign, feeling positive about working with the campaign council to promote Tinubu’s candidacy.
