Police Clear Misunderstanding Over Viral Video of Officers

The Osun State Police Command has cleared the air about a viral video that claims to show police officers running away from a drone.

The Command stated that the video is from a Yoruba movie and does not show any real police situation.

In a statement on Wednesday, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, explained that the footage is from the film Omije Fun Omije Part 2, which was made in May 2026.

The command mentioned that a police patrol vehicle was part of the movie, and an actor in a police uniform briefly got out of the moving vehicle, ran after it, and got back in.

The command noted, "A bystander who was not part of the film crew recorded the scene, tagged it as showing police officers running from a drone and posted it online."

They clarified that the drone seen in the video was used for filming the movie and had nothing to do with any police operation.

The Command said, "We reject any narrative that serving officers 'ran away' from a drone.

"That claim is misleading, damaging to the reputation of the Force, and inconsistent with the facts known to the Command," the statement read.

The command also criticized how the video was shared and presented without proper checks.

They said, "Investigative journalism requires verification before a clip is given a national or international frame."

"Publishing out-of-context footage and attaching a false explanation is not a minor error when it is used to ridicule a security institution," the statement continued.

The command urged those spreading the video to take back the misleading caption and correct the narrative, stating that the footage is from a movie, not a real police incident.

They also asked people to stop using staged or unrelated videos to suggest police cowardice or misconduct.

The command emphasized, "The Osun State Police Command does not condone the smearing of the Force."

They reaffirmed their commitment to lawful and professional policing in the state, promising to keep protecting lives and property.

Finally, the command said they are open to factual reporting but warned against what they called deliberate distortion of images, videos, or media reports.

"What we will not accept is the deliberate distortion of images, videos or any media report to drag the Command through the mud," the statement concluded.
