The Lagos State Police Command has rejected claims that the late Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Khan Salihu, was kidnapped before his death.
The command called the report false, misleading, and made up. They asked the public to ignore the claim.
Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, shared this information in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.
Adebisi explained that Salihu only said he felt unwell before he was taken to the hospital for urgent medical care.
She said doctors later confirmed he died after efforts to save him.
“For the avoidance of doubt, DCP Salihu was never kidnapped at any time prior to his demise.
“The report is entirely false, misleading and a complete fabrication with no basis in fact whatsoever,” Adebisi said.
She emphasized that the late officer was never taken or involved in any crime before he passed away.
“At no time was the deceased officer abducted or linked to any incident involving criminal activity,” she added.
The police spokesperson expressed worry over a story she called unverified that came from a recognized media platform.
She mentioned that the report was published without checking facts with the right authorities.
Adebisi pointed out that the claim caused unnecessary pain to the late officer’s family, friends, and colleagues.
She called the report insensitive, especially while the police community was mourning a dedicated officer.
The spokesperson said Salihu served Nigeria with pride and stayed committed to his job.
She demanded that the report be withdrawn immediately and asked for a public correction.
Adebisi also requested an apology from the media organization involved, stressing the need for responsibility.
She urged the public to depend only on confirmed information from official police sources.
The command promised to continue fighting false information and providing accurate updates to Nigerians.
