The Anambra State Police has found a fake Beretta pistol and live bullets from suspected motorcycle thieves along Ukpor Road, Umudim, in Nnewi, Anambra State.
On Thursday, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson, shared this news in a press statement. He said officers from the Nnewi Central Police Station made the recovery during their routine patrol.
Ikenga explained that the officers saw two suspected motorcycle thieves on a motorcycle and quickly chased after them.
He said during the chase, the suspects dropped a bag while trying to escape. A search of the bag led to the discovery of the gun and ammunition.
He stated, "The operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to Nnewi Central Police Station, while on routine patrol in the morning of September 3, 2026, recovered a fabricated Beretta pistol and one live round of ammunition along Ukpor Road, Umudim, Nnewi, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
"The operatives had sighted two suspected motorcycle snatchers riding on a motorcycle and immediately gave them a hot chase.
"In the course of the pursuit, the suspects abandoned a bag which fell from them while attempting to escape. A search conducted on the bag led to the recovery of the exhibits.
"Efforts are currently ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.
"The Command reassures Ndi Anambra of its unwavering commitment to crime prevention and the fight against all forms of criminality in the State."
