The police in Zamfara State have rescued two people who were kidnapped. They also killed an armed bandit and seized an AK-47 rifle during an operation in the Talata Mafara Local Government Area.
The police shared this news on Tuesday through their spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar.
PUNCH Metro found out that the operation took place on Sunday around 2:30 PM. A team made up of police tactical operatives, the Community Protection Guard, and the Civilian Joint Task Force carried out the mission.
While they were trying to rescue the victims near Tashar Lawali Village in the Kagara District, they spotted a group of armed bandits on five motorcycles. The bandits had kidnapped some people and were on the move.
When the bandits saw the security team, they started shooting at them.
“The team immediately responded with superior firepower, successfully repelling the attack and forcing the criminals to retreat,” the police said.
During the fight, one of the bandits was shot dead. The police recovered an AK-47 rifle and its magazine from him. Two of the kidnapped victims were rescued, but the remaining bandits escaped into the nearby area, some of them injured.
The police confirmed that there were no casualties among the joint security forces.
The police also mentioned that the operation is still ongoing. They are working hard to track down the fleeing bandits, rescue more victims, and recover more weapons.
In response to this incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Bello, praised the security team for their “courage, resilience, and prompt response.”
Bello promised that the police will continue to carry out smart and coordinated operations to break up criminal gangs and bring peace back to the state.
