The Katsina State Police have arrested 225 suspects involved in different crimes. These include kidnapping, banditry, cattle rustling, and arms trafficking. This happened in May 2026.

DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the police spokesperson, shared this information on Thursday. He was presenting the command’s performance report for the month.

Sadiq said the police, led by Commissioner Ali Umar Fage, have stepped up intelligence operations, joint patrols, and cooperation with other agencies to fight crime in the state.

“Our approach is proactive, and the results show we are making progress in restoring public safety across the state,” Sadiq said.

He mentioned that among those arrested were seven suspected kidnappers, 10 armed robbers, one armed bandit, two informants, and 21 drug dealers.

Other arrests included 10 people linked to murder and culpable homicide, 36 suspects for rape and sodomy, 13 social miscreants, and 130 others for various offenses.

“In total, we recorded 150 major cases and have charged 109 of them to court for prosecution after investigations,” he stated.

The police spokesman also shared that they rescued 17 kidnapped victims during this period.

“The victims have been debriefed, medically examined, and reunited with their families,” he added.

Sadiq noted that the command recovered several items, including 20 laptops, two mobile phones, one master key, and a scanner.

They also recovered 466 suspected stolen animals, three vehicles, 22 motorcycles, four bags of stolen span wires, 141 Exol tablets, 190 sachets of Diazepam, 170 wraps of suspected Indian hemp, 49 D5 tablets, 133 Pregabalin tablets, and five packs of Dexamethasone.

“All recovered items are with us and will be presented in court as evidence,” he said.

The police spokesman linked these successes to ongoing teamwork with other security agencies through joint operations, patrols, and sharing of intelligence.

While he acknowledged the progress made, he emphasized that the command will keep working hard against criminals across the state.

Sadiq also thanked the Katsina State Government and the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, for their support.

“We are not resting on these achievements. We truly appreciate the Katsina State Government under Malam Dikko Umaru Radda for its continuous support, and the Inspector-General of Police for his logistical and moral backing,” he said.

Katsina state has been heavily affected by banditry and kidnapping in Nigeria’s North-West. The state has seen ongoing security operations aimed at reducing attacks on communities, farmers, and travelers.

Security agencies are also focusing on intelligence-led operations and joint patrols in key areas to restore peace and enhance public safety.
