Police nab another suspect in UNIJOS graduate's murder case

The Plateau State Police have arrested another suspect linked to the mob killing of Ibrahim Mbaya, a University of Jos graduate.

The police called this arrest a big step forward in their investigation into the sad event. Many people were angry after the undergraduate died, allegedly tortured by a mob over theft accusations.

SP Alfred Alabo, the Police Public Relations Officer for Plateau State, shared this news in a statement on Wednesday from Jos.

The statement revealed that detectives, acting on reliable information, arrested 24-year-old Yusuf Christopher Beskeni for his alleged role in the incident.

The police chief said that early investigations and gathered evidence show that the suspect was actively involved in the attack on the deceased. He claimed that Beskeni helped tie Mbaya to a pole while the mob tortured him, which ultimately led to his death.

"The suspect allegedly played an active role in the unlawful assault on the deceased. He is specifically alleged to have participated in tying the deceased to a pole while he was subjected to severe torture by members of the mob, an act which ultimately resulted in the victim’s death," the statement said.

The police mentioned that Beskeni is currently in custody and helping with the investigation. They are also working hard to find other suspects who are still on the run.

DCP Usman Sheikh Adamu, the acting Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, assured the family of the deceased and the people of Plateau that the police are serious about getting justice. He promised that anyone involved in the torture and death of Mbaya would face the law.

"The Plateau State Police Command assures the family of the deceased and the good people of Plateau State that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring that all those responsible for the torture and eventual death of Ibrahim Mbaya face the full weight of the law," the Commissioner said.

The police reiterated their commitment to arrest everyone connected to the crime. They also urged the public to share any information that could help the investigation.

The police also made it clear that they will protect the rights of all citizens and ensure that anyone found guilty in this case is prosecuted as the law requires.

Ibrahim Mbaya, known as "Ibee," died on July 27 after being tortured by a mob over claims of stealing a mobile phone at an off-campus house in Jos. This incident caused a lot of anger and calls to stop jungle justice.

With this latest arrest, the total number of suspects in police custody has reached five, while detectives continue to search for other suspects who are still hiding.
