The Anambra State Police has arrested a 27-year-old ex-convict named Chidera Eleh, also known as "Timaya." He is accused of being part of a series of motorcycle-assisted robberies that targeted Point-of-Sale operators and other victims in Awka, the state capital.

A press statement from the Anambra State Police Command was released on Friday. The spokesman, Superintendent of Police Tochukwu Ikenga, said they arrested the suspect as part of their ongoing efforts to catch criminals involved in motorcycle-enabled robberies and similar crimes across the state.

Ikenga mentioned that police recovered several items during the operation. These items include a motorcycle, an axe, a cutlass, and other evidence believed to be linked to the alleged crimes.

The suspect is now in police custody. Investigations are ongoing to find out how involved he is and to identify other people who may also be part of these robberies.

The statement said, "The Anambra State Police Command on October 9, 2026, arrested a 27-year-old ex-convict, Chidera Eleh, popularly known as 'Timaya,' over his alleged involvement in a series of motorcycle-assisted robberies targeting Point-of-Sale operators and other unsuspecting victims in Awka, the State capital.

In another note, the Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, CP Nnanna Ama, has assured the public of the Command’s commitment. He promised to protect lives and property and to ensure that anyone involved in criminal activities faces justice according to the law.

The CP also encouraged the public, especially POS operators, commercial motorcycle riders, and other business owners, to stay alert. He asked them to report any suspicious activities or movements to the nearest police station.
