Officers from the Bayelsa State Police Command have arrested a 68-year-old man and his son. They were caught with four single-barrel guns along the Igbogene-Tombia Expressway in Yenagoa.

This information was shared in a statement by Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, on Wednesday.

Mohammed said the suspects are Tibi Friday, 68, from Futoro Gbene Community in Ekeremor Local Government Area, and his 36-year-old son, Oyabrade Tibi. They were arrested during a stop-and-search operation by officers from the Anti-Vice Unit at about 10:30 a.m. on July 6.

According to the police, the father and son were on their way in a commercial tricycle to Abua in Rivers State when the officers stopped their vehicle for a search.

During the search, officers found four single-barrel guns hidden inside a sack and covered with sticks. Investigators believe this was an attempt to hide the weapons from being discovered.

The statement noted, "The Bayelsa State Police Command under CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor has achieved another significant breakthrough with the arrest of two suspects in possession of four single-barrel guns."

The case has been sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yenagoa for further investigation. They will look into where the guns came from and if anyone else is involved in this case.

The Command is serious about fighting the spread of illegal firearms and violent crimes in the state. They also encourage the public to stay alert and provide timely information that can help enhance safety and security.

The Bayelsa State Police Command said they are still investigating to find out the source of the firearms and if there are others involved in the crime.

The case has been passed to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yenagoa for more investigation. The police reiterated their commitment to addressing the issue of illegal firearms and other violent crimes. They urge residents to stay vigilant and share any helpful information to support security efforts.
