The Anambra State Police have arrested a 49-year-old man named Chima Ogumba. He is suspected of armed robbery. Police found a pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges with him in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area.
Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson, shared this news in a statement on Tuesday.
Ikenga explained that officers from the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu caught Ogumba on the morning of August 17, 2026. This happened during an operation in the area.
The police searched Ogumba and found the pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges. He could not explain why he had the gun and ammunition.
The statement said, "The Anambra State Police Command operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu on the morning of August 17, 2026, arrested a 49-year-old armed robbery suspect, Chima Ogumba.
"The team also recovered one pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges from him in Nkpor Road, Idemili North Local Government Area of the State.
"The operatives, upon storming the identified area, conducted a search on the suspect that led to the recovery of one pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges.
"The suspect was unable to give a satisfactory and reasonable account of his possession of the firearm and ammunition."
Ikenga added that the Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama, ordered a thorough investigation into Ogumba's case. They want to find out if he is connected to armed robbery and other crimes.
The investigation will also look into where the gun and cartridges came from and what Ogumba planned to do with them.
The Commissioner of Police emphasized that the command will continue to focus on intelligence-led operations, proactive policing, and targeted patrols. They aim to find and break criminal networks in the state.
