Operatives from the Delta State Police Command have arrested a 26-year-old suspected armed robber in Asaba. They also recovered three firearms, including an AK-47 rifle and ammunition, during a well-planned operation.
This information came from a statement signed by the command's spokesman, Bright Edafe. Copies of the statement were shared with journalists in Warri on Saturday.
The statement mentioned that on October 7, 2026, around 10:30 PM, operatives from the CP Special Assignment Team, acting on solid intelligence and working with local vigilantes, arrested Sunday Nimel (26). He is believed to be part of an armed robbery group linked to many residential robberies in Asaba and nearby areas.
"During questioning, the suspect provided valuable information that led the operatives to a hideout near Okpanam City Gate. There, they found one AK-47 rifle, three rounds of live ammunition, and two locally made cut-to-size guns," the statement said.
Edafe stated that the investigation is still ongoing.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Erale, praised the operatives for their successful work. He emphasized the command’s commitment to using intelligence to fight crime and break down criminal groups in the state.
The commissioner urged residents to keep supporting the police with trustworthy information. He assured them that the command is dedicated to protecting lives and property.
