The Oyo State Police have arrested three men suspected of robbery. They also recovered a locally made gun, a live cartridge, and a motorcycle after a robbery at Sumal Junction Roundabout in Ibadan.
The arrests happened on Thursday, October 8, 2026. The Divisional Police Officer of Oluyole Division got a distress call about the robbery in the area. A statement released on Sunday confirmed this.
The police patrol team quickly went to the scene after getting the report. They confronted the suspects and made the arrests.
The suspects are Sunday Obasola, 29 years old; Kayode Bamikole, 28; and Durodoye Ayobami, 23.
The statement said, “The incident occurred on Thursday, 8th October 2026, at about 9:15 p.m. The DPO Oluyole Divisional Headquarters received information that some armed men were attacking and dispossessing members of the public of their belongings around the location. Acting promptly on the information, a police patrol team was immediately deployed to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the team confronted the suspects, leading to the arrest of three individuals identified as Sunday Obasola, male, aged 29; Kayode Bamikole, male, aged 28; and Durodoye Ayobami, male, aged 23. The arrests also resulted in the recovery of items suspected to have been used in or connected with the criminal activity.”
The command reported recovering “one black TVS motorcycle with registration number AKN 808 QF, one cut-to-size locally fabricated pistol, and one live cartridge.”
The police stated that the recovered items are now secure as evidence for further investigations.
During questioning, the suspects said they robbed a tricycle driver and two passengers. They also admitted to injuring other people during their alleged crimes.
“Consequently, the three suspects remain in police custody, while the case has been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Eleyele, Ibadan, for discreet and thorough investigation,” the statement read.
The Commissioner of Police for Oyo State, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, said the command is serious about fighting crime in the state.
The statement quoted him saying the command is dedicated to protecting lives and properties. This is done through quick responses to distress calls, smart policing, and continuous operations against criminals.
The police also urged residents to stay alert. They should report any suspicious activities to the police quickly.
“Timely and credible information from residents remains essential to strengthening security and maintaining public safety across Oyo State,” the statement added.
