The Ogun State Police Command has promised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that it will provide enough security for its staff, facilities, and electoral materials for the 2027 general elections.

In a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, made this promise during a visit to the Ogun State office of INEC. He met with the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs Feyijimi Saseyi, in Abeokuta on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

During the visit, Ojajuni looked around the INEC office and talked about security plans with the commission. This was part of efforts to ensure a peaceful and safe election process.

Ojajuni called INEC a key part of Nigeria’s democracy. He stressed the importance of ongoing teamwork between the police and the electoral body. "From now until the end of the 2027 General Elections, the INEC office will become our second office," Ojajuni said.

He further explained that the police's security plans would focus on using intelligence, assessing threats early, sharing information effectively, and deploying officers to protect electoral officials, voters, and election materials.

Ojajuni added that all security operations would be done professionally and fairly, following the law. He reminded everyone that the command had previously held a security workshop in Abeokuta with other security agencies and important stakeholders to prepare for the 2027 elections.

He mentioned that INEC took part in this workshop, which helped everyone work better together on security for the elections. In her response, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Saseyi, thanked the police commissioner for his visit and promised that INEC would cooperate with the police and other stakeholders to ensure fair elections.

"On our part, we will also be open, transparent and committed to this assignment so that, at the end of it all, we will achieve free, fair, transparent and credible elections," she said.

Ojajuni urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to follow the law, avoid violence and intimidation, and stay away from actions that could harm the election process. He also called on residents to report any real security issues quickly at the nearest police station or through established communication channels, while warning against spreading unverified information.

The command reiterated its commitment to working with INEC, other security agencies, and relevant stakeholders to ensure public safety and support a peaceful election process. It also urged citizens to reject violence, respect democratic institutions, and cooperate with lawful security efforts before the 2027 general elections.
