The Police Command in Bayelsa State on Wednesday asked hotel owners to improve how they identify their guests and to set up working CCTV cameras. This is to stop criminals from using hotels as hiding places.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, made this request in Yenagoa during a security meeting with the Association of Hoteliers and other important people in the hospitality and tourism sector.
The meeting looked at ways to stop criminals from taking advantage of hotels and other hospitality places to plan or commit crimes.
Talks focused on better guest identification, proper documentation, functional surveillance systems, quick reporting of suspicious activities, and better sharing of information with the police.
Mr Adewale described the hospitality industry as a key partner in the state’s security efforts. He highlighted the need for hotel operators, regulatory bodies, and security agencies to work together.
He urged hotel owners and managers to put in place good security measures and to quickly report any suspicious persons, movements, or activities in their hotels.
The commissioner reassured everyone that the police command is committed to ongoing talks and better teamwork with the hospitality sector.
The meeting included the Director-General of the Tourism Development and Hotel Licensing Agency, Oluseyi Ayamasaowei, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Oluwatoyin Aziebi, and representatives of the Association of Hoteliers.
Other attendees also promised to work with the police and government agencies to raise security standards in the hospitality industry.
The News Agency of Nigeria says this effort aims to boost security awareness among hotel operators and to stop criminal activities in hotels and other public relaxation spots in the state.
