Prince William shared that his dad, King Charles, “hates football” during a chat on Travis Kelce’s podcast. This episode came out on Friday, just a few hours before the NFL star was set to tie the knot with pop icon Taylor Swift.
The main topic of their conversation was the World Cup, not the wedding. William mentioned he would go to the tournament in the United States if England reached the final.
William is a fan of Aston Villa, a Premier League team. When asked if King Charles inspired his interest in football, he said, “Absolutely not. My father hates football.”
Thanks to a strong showing from team captain Harry Kane, who scored two late goals against DR Congo, England has advanced to the round of 16.
The “Three Lions” are set to face Mexico at the famous Azteca Stadium this Sunday.
When Kelce asked if the Prince of Wales would fly over to watch the final if England gets there, William replied, “definitely.”
“If we’re in the finals…maybe see you both there for the final?” he added.
This interview also happened during the July Fourth celebrations in the US, marking 250 years of independence from Britain.
“Be honest, are you surprised we made it?” Kelce inquired.
“There were times…there were times,” William replied, saying, “yeah, but I’d like to think the UK and the US have been together for those 250 years.”
