A presidential hopeful from the Peoples Redemption Party, Yakubu Kingsley, has urged politicians to avoid divisive politics. He wants them to focus on issue-based campaigns as the 2027 general elections approach.

Kingsley made this appeal in a statement he signed and shared with journalists in Abuja on Wednesday. This came after the Independent National Electoral Commission released its timetable for the 2027 elections.

He stated that the election period is a chance for Nigerians to choose new leaders and to reshape the country’s future. He believes campaigns should focus on ideas, skills, and national progress.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission has officially released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Elections, thereby signalling the commencement of another important democratic journey in our nation’s history,” he said.

Kingsley congratulated candidates from all parties for stepping forward for public service. He emphasized that the election process should be peaceful and responsible.

“This election season presents Nigeria with a historic opportunity, not merely to change governments, but to redefine our national direction. It is therefore imperative that we rise above the politics of division and embrace the politics of ideas, competence, integrity and national development.

“Let the campaigns be about solutions, not insults,” Kingsley said.

He called on all presidential, governorship, National Assembly, and state assembly candidates to run campaigns that are peaceful and focused on solving Nigeria’s pressing issues.

Kingsley criticized the use of abusive language, character attacks, ethnic profiling, religious manipulation, fake news, and hate speech during campaigns.

“The era of abusive language, character assassination, ethnic profiling, religious manipulation, fake news, hate speech and politics of bitterness must come to an end. Nigeria has suffered enough.

“Our people are not interested in endless exchanges of insults. They are not interested in propaganda. They are not interested in empty promises or political entertainment.

“What Nigerians desire today are practical solutions to the enormous challenges confronting our nation,” he said.

Kingsley urged candidates to clearly outline their plans for tackling issues like the economy, insecurity, unemployment, electricity, education, healthcare, and corruption.

“Let every candidate tell Nigerians what economic policies they intend to implement, how they intend to secure lives and property, revive industries, stabilise the naira, create millions of jobs, provide uninterrupted electricity, reform education and healthcare, tackle corruption without fear or favour, and unite our diverse country. The Nigerian electorate deserves nothing less,” he added.

He blamed Nigeria’s current security and economic troubles on years of bad governance, inconsistent policies, corruption, and weak leadership. He noted that insecurity has grown from local conflicts to larger issues like terrorism and banditry.

According to him, inflation, rising food costs, unemployment, poor electricity supply, currency instability, and lack of infrastructure have made life harder for many Nigerians.

Kingsley also pointed out that these problems have worsened under the current administration, leaving many citizens struggling.

Despite this, he expressed hope for Nigeria’s future, saying the country’s greatest asset is “the resilience, intelligence, creativity and determination of the Nigerian people.”

The presidential aspirant said his vision for Nigeria is based on strong leadership, skill, transparency, accountability, innovation, and national unity.
