Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has said he would love to play in La Liga one day, but he is happy and focused at the Premier League champions.

In an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca on Wednesday, the 31-year-old Spain international hinted he might return to Spain in the future.

Raya’s contract with Arsenal runs until June 2028. He has spent his whole professional career in England after moving from Spain as a teenager.

“Yes, I would love to. I would love to try out LaLiga,” Raya told Marca. “For now, I’m very happy here [at Arsenal], but I would certainly like to experience the Spanish league. I think it’s a very competitive league. Perhaps, in the future, I could play for a Spanish club. I’m Spanish, and I’d love to play there, that’s for sure.”

The Barcelona-born keeper joined Arsenal from Brentford, first on loan in 2023 and then making the move permanent.

He has made a name for himself as one of Europe’s top goalkeepers. He helped the Gunners win the Premier League last season, earned a third straight Golden Glove, and played a part in their deep runs in the Champions League and domestic cups.

Raya was also part of Spain’s World Cup-winning squad in the summer, although he didn’t get to play in any matches.

Looking back at his recent performance, Raya said last season was his best so far. “I believe I’ve had a perfect year. Perhaps the only thing missing was playing in the World Cup. Every year since I arrived at Arsenal, I’ve continued to improve and hopefully that will keep happening.”

As he thinks about the future with Arsenal, he has clear goals. “My goal is to win everything. We want to establish ourselves as favourites. Hopefully we can go one better this year by lifting the Champions League, but there is still a long way to go.”
