The African Democratic Congress has picked David Okumgba as its deputy governorship candidate for Rivers State in the 2027 elections.
Chukwudi Dimgba, the state chairman of the party, announced Okumgba's nomination on Tuesday. He will run alongside the party’s governorship candidate, Dr Gabriel Pidomson, who was once the Secretary to the Rivers State Government.
In the statement sent to reporters, Dimgba praised Okumgba as a leader who has shown strong skills in both politics and business.
Dimgba said the Pidomson-Okumgba ticket stands for competence, experience, inclusiveness, and a shared vision for a new Rivers State. He urged the people of the oil-rich state to support the candidates.
The statement said, “His experience includes serving as South-South Zonal Secretary of a major political party, South-South Zonal Publicity Secretary, and Chairman of the Appeal Committee for Senatorial Primaries in Edo State.
“He also previously contested for the Rivers State House of Assembly, which shows his long commitment to democracy and representing the grassroots.
“His political experience, organizational skills, people skills, and deep understanding of the socio-political situation in Rivers State make him a great choice to work with our governorship candidate, Hon. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson.
“This ticket represents competence, experience, inclusiveness, and a shared vision for a new Rivers State based on good governance, accountability, economic growth, security, and equal chances for everyone. The party believes the Pidomson-Okumgba ticket meets the hopes of the Rivers State people and provides the leadership and integrity needed to advance our state.
“We call on all members of our great party, supporters, and the good people of Rivers State to welcome Mr David Amapakaye Okumgba with excitement. Join us as we build a strong movement dedicated to creating a government that truly serves the people,” it added.
The Rivers ADC chairman promised that the party will “inspire confidence, unite our people, and build the Rivers State we all deserve.”
