The Beach Soccer National Team, known as the Sand Eagles, is excited as all 20 invited players are now in camp. They are stepping up their preparations for next month’s CAF Beach Soccer AFCON qualifying match against Ghana’s Black Sharks.
For the past week, the Sand Eagles have been working hard with tactical and technical drills at the Murtala Muhammed Square Sports Complex in Kaduna. Coach Christopher Kadiri is leading the training while the team’s Head Coach, Abdullahi Isa, is currently with the U17 Boys National Team, the Golden Eaglets. They are preparing for the WAFU-B U17 Championship happening in Ouagadougou next month.
The Sand Eagles will face Ghana’s Black Sharks in Kaduna on Saturday, 10 October. The second leg will take place in Accra on Saturday, 17 October.
After being absent from beach soccer competitions for several years, Nigeria returned two years ago. However, they lost to Mauritania on the away-goal rule during the qualifying series for that year’s CAF Beach Soccer AFCON held in Seychelles.
The winner of the match between Nigeria and Ghana will secure a spot in this year’s CAF Beach Soccer AFCON finals. The finals are set for 7, 15 November in Senegal.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reached out to the Fédération Sénegalaise de Football. They want the African champions to play a few friendly matches with the Sand Eagles. This will help them prepare for the important games against Ghana’s Black Sharks.
