The Kebbi State Police have arrested a 36-year-old security guard working at an Islamiyya school in Jega Local Government Area. He is accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl.
Police Commissioner Umar Hadejia announced the arrest during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.
The suspect, named Faruku Muhammed, lives in the Tungar Zabarmawa area of Jega. He was arrested after a complaint was made about the incident involving a child from the same community.
According to the police, the incident happened on June 14. The suspect is said to have lured the girl into his room at the Islamiyya school where he works.
"On June 14, 2026, at about 4:30 p.m., Faruku Muhammed, 36, allegedly lured a 10-year-old girl into his room located inside an Islamiyya School where he works as a security guard," Hadejia explained.
The police commissioner said the case is still under investigation. He promised that if the suspect is found guilty, he will face legal consequences.
"The case is under investigation and will be prosecuted accordingly," he stated.
The police emphasized their commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable people in the community. They urged parents and guardians to report any cases of abuse or exploitation immediately.
Hadejia also called on residents to provide reliable information to law enforcement. This will help in the fight against crime in the state.
The police assured the public that all reports of child abuse and other crimes will be taken seriously.
