Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, visited former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Philip Salawu. This visit was to pay her respects after the passing of his mother, Mrs Alice Salawu.
Mrs Salawu died on June 9 at the age of 107.
Mike Idoko, the senator’s media aide, shared this news in a statement from Abuja on Monday.
The Kogi lawmaker expressed her sorrow over the death of the centenarian mother. She extended her condolences to the entire Salawu family and their community.
Akpoti-Uduaghan described the late Mrs Salawu as a woman of great grace, strength, and wisdom. She said the legacy of her long life was worth celebrating, even as the family mourns her loss.
She stated, "Mama Alice Salawu lived a truly exceptional life defined by faith, sacrifice, resilience, and devotion to her family and community.
"Attaining the age of 107 is a rare blessing, and her life stands as a testament to God’s abundant grace and faithfulness."
The senator pointed out that losing a mother is always painful, no matter how old she was. She encouraged the family to find comfort in the fact that Mrs Salawu had a fulfilled life and left behind a legacy that would inspire many.
"While her passing leaves a great void in the hearts of her loved ones, we must also celebrate a life well spent. Mama’s legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the countless lives she touched through her kindness, wisdom, and exemplary character," she added.
Akpoti-Udughan also expressed her sympathy to the former deputy governor and the bereaved family. She prayed for strength and comfort during this difficult time.
"I extend my sincere condolences to Dr. Philip Omeiza Salawu, his siblings, and the entire Salawu family. The loss of a beloved mother is never easy, but I pray that Almighty God grants you comfort, strength, and peace. May He uphold the family and give you the fortitude to bear this loss," she said.
The senator included prayers for the soul of the deceased.
Salawu was Deputy Governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2012 under former Governor Ibrahim Idris. He is still a well-known figure in the state's political scene.
This condolence visit comes as many political associates, community leaders, and well-wishers have shared tributes following the death of the respected matriarch.
