Senator Yemi Adaramodu, who chairs the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, says individual senators are not to blame for any legal issues linked to buying official vehicles.

Adaramodu, from Ekiti State, said that lawmakers had no part in the buying process.

He spoke on Wednesday in response to a recent court ruling about the purchase of official vehicles for members of the National Assembly. Adaramodu insisted that senators were not involved in the procurement exercise.

He explained that the purchase of official vehicles is strictly managed by the National Assembly's bureaucracy. This body decides on, buys, and assigns vehicles for legislative and committee tasks.

"The bureaucracy determines and provides official vehicles for committee work and legislative assignments. No vehicle is registered in the name of any senator," he said.

The senator also noted that these vehicles remain government property during a senator's time in office. They are only used for official legislative duties.

Adaramodu, representing Ekiti South Senatorial District, added that lawmakers can only buy such vehicles after their tenure, following the right government procedures and payment plans.

He pointed out that any legal issues about the buying process should be directed at the relevant departments in the National Assembly that handle these transactions, not at the individual senators.

"Senators were not taken to court. Procurement is handled by the appropriate departments within the National Assembly bureaucracy. Legislators have no role in the purchasing process," he stated.

The senator emphasized that the National Assembly works within established rules and procedures for buying. He said lawmakers should not be blamed for decisions made by the assembly's bureaucracy.
