Shooting Stars coach Salisu Yusuf is now looking at the CAF Confederation Cup. This comes after his team kicked off their 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season with a 2-1 win over Inter Lagos at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan on Friday.

Goals from Lucky Emmanuel and Sodiq Ibrahim helped the Oluyole Warriors grab the three points. This victory is their first opening-day win in three years.

Lucky scored the first goal in the 14th minute. But Inter Lagos captain Uchenna Njoku equalised just seven minutes later.

Shooting Stars kept pushing for another goal. Desmond and Lucky Emmanuel both had chances before they got back in the lead just before half-time. Lucky was fouled in the box, and Sodiq Ibrahim scored from the penalty to send the home team into the break ahead.

The team held on in the second half to start the new season with a win. But Yusuf thinks this match will help his players get fit for their upcoming continental game against CS Sfaxien on Saturday in Abeokuta.

“We are going to play on the continent next in Abeokuta, and our focus is there at the moment. We will see how we can get the team to play better than this,” Yusuf said.

“This game will give them more match fitness, and that will help us in our next game.”

Now, Shooting Stars are turning their focus to the CAF Confederation Cup. Yusuf also mentioned that former Rivers United goalkeeper Victor Sochima might join their squad for the continental matches.

“Sochima trained with us and he brings good experience that can help the team,” the coach said.
