Shooting Stars SC have let go of their head coach, Nurudeen Aweroro, just days before the new Nigeria Premier Football League season kicks off. This ends his time with the Oluyole Warriors unexpectedly.
The Ibadan club made this known in an official statement. They announced that Aweroro, Team Manager Tammy Tamuno, and Assistant Coach Shakiru Lawal have all left their roles immediately.
Shooting Stars did not specify why they made this decision. They called the departure a mutual agreement after talks between the club and the technical team.
Sources say ongoing disagreements between Aweroro and some key members of the club’s board led to this sudden change.
In its statement, Shooting Stars said the departing members of the technical team agreed to end their contracts on good terms.
“We have reached a mutual agreement with Head Coach Nurudeen Aweroro, Team Manager Tammy Tamuno, and Assistant Coach Shakiru Lawal to bring their respective contracts with the Club to an end, with immediate effect,” the club stated.
“The decision follows discussions between the Club and the affected members of the technical team, with both parties agreeing to part ways amicably.”
The club also thanked Aweroro, Tamuno, and Lawal for their hard work, especially for their part in Shooting Stars’ strong performance last season.
“Shooting Stars appreciates Nurudeen Aweroro, Tammy Tamuno, and Shakiru Lawal for their commitment, professionalism, and contributions to the Club during their respective periods of service,” the statement added.
“The Club particularly acknowledges their efforts in helping Shooting Stars achieve a third-place finish in the 2025/26 NPFL season and secure a continental ticket.”
The club wished all three success in their future endeavors. They also said that the remaining assistant coaches will temporarily manage the technical department.
“In the interim, the other Assistant Coaches have been directed to take charge of the affairs of the Technical Department pending the appointment and announcement of a substantive Head Coach. The Club will communicate further developments in due course.”
Aweroro Leaves After Historic NPFL Campaign
The timing of Aweroro’s exit has surprised many.
Shooting Stars decided to part ways with the coach just before the Value Jet Cup pre-season tournament. This happened only 24 hours after the Oluyole Warriors lost 3-0 in a friendly match against Ikorodu City.
Aweroro became Shooting Stars’ head coach in July 2025. He led the team through one of their best seasons in recent years.
The Ibadan team finished third in the 2025/26 NPFL season, earning a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup.
This was especially important as it marked Shooting Stars’ first qualification for continental football in 27 years.
The club specifically acknowledged the contributions of Aweroro, Tamuno, and Lawal to this historic achievement.
Now, the Oluyole Warriors will start the new season without the coach who helped them return to continental competition.
