Sowore is back in Nigeria, ready for 2027 presidential race

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), is back in Nigeria from the United States. He returned on Sunday to kick off his campaign for the 2027 presidential election.

Mr Sowore shared this news in a statement to journalists on Sunday. He said he is happy to be home with his family and country after his trip to the US.

He explained that he left for the US because of his arrests, detention, travel bans, and the seizure of his international passport by Nigerian security agencies.

While in the US, Mr Sowore connected with Nigerians living abroad, supporters, activists, and other groups about the situation in Nigeria and his political plans. He also took part in a solidarity march for Palestine in New York and pushed for voting rights for Nigerians living outside the country.

The AAC presidential candidate emphasized his commitment to ensuring that Nigerians in the diaspora take part in the country's democratic process. He mentioned that an AAC government would work to implement diaspora voting if he is elected in 2027.

Mr Sowore said he arrived at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos before heading to Abuja. He also plans to attend court sessions related to a cybercrime case brought against him by the State Security Services (SSS) in 2025.

His return marks a new phase of his nationwide campaign leading up to the 2027 presidential election. "I plan to engage workers, students, youths, women, farmers, traders, professionals, and communities across the country," he said.

He stated that his campaign will focus on political, social, and economic issues outlined in the AAC’s 2027 agenda. The campaign aims to rally Nigerians around key issues like equal rights, justice, peace, security, and economic growth.

According to Mr Sowore, the 2027 election will give Nigerians a chance to choose the future of the country’s political leadership. "My campaign will continue to advocate for fundamental political, social, and economic transformation," he said.

He affirmed his dedication to reaching out to Nigerians nationwide. "I will continue the campaign and engage with Nigerians as the 2027 election approaches," he said.
