Spain Makes History by Holding Both Men's and Women's World Cup Titles

Spain has made history by becoming the first country to hold both the FIFA Men’s World Cup and FIFA Women’s World Cup titles at the same time.

FIFA shared this news on its official X handle on Sunday after Spain beat Argentina 1-0 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final in New York.

FIFA celebrated the achievement, saying, “History-makers Spain have become the first nation to hold both the @FIFAWorldCup and @FIFAWWC simultaneously!”

Spain's win in the men’s tournament came just three years after the women’s team won the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time. They defeated England 1-0 in the 2023 final in Sydney, Australia, with Olga Carmona scoring the winning goal.

This recent win is also Spain’s second men’s World Cup title, as they had previously claimed the trophy in South Africa in 2010.

By winning the 2026 title while still being the reigning women’s world champions, Spain achieved something no other country has done since the two FIFA World Cup competitions started.

This historic double shows Spain’s strong presence in international football.

Besides holding both World Cup trophies, Spain’s men’s team won the UEFA European Championship in 2024. Meanwhile, the women’s team has been a top contender in world football since winning their first global title in Australia and New Zealand.
