On Saturday, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported that its workers discovered a suspected vandal dead under a damaged transmission tower in Delta State.

The company shared this in a statement from Abuja. The incident took place on the 330-kilovolt (kV) Ughelli-Benin transmission line.

TCN said the discovery came during a thorough patrol by the Delta Sub-Region Lines Maintenance Department. This patrol was necessary after the line tripped due to an earth fault.

According to TCN, the patrol team traced the fault to Tower 101, which had collapsed. They found the body of the suspected vandal trapped between the parts of the tower.

The inspection also showed that Tower 101 on the nearby Ughelli-Sapele 330kV transmission line had been badly damaged. That tower was still standing at the time of the report.

In the statement, TCN condemned the vandalism of its facilities. They called on host communities and the public to stay alert.

The company urged everyone to report any suspicious activities around power installations to security agencies and the nearest TCN offices.

"The fight against the vandalism of power infrastructure is one that must include everyone. All hands must be on deck for this fight to be won," TCN said.

They added, "This incident is a tragic reminder of the extreme dangers of tampering with power infrastructure."

The company warned that vandalism leads not only to power outages and damage to national assets but also puts lives at risk.

"Protecting power infrastructure is a civic responsibility. Stop the vandals, or they will stop power for us all," TCN stated.
