The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday brought Raymond Charles Yafetus, Auwal Ibrahim, and Babangida Yahaya Ibrahim before Justice S. O. Ibrahim at the Federal High Court in Abuja. They face charges for impersonating popular Nigerian blogger and influencer Tunde Ednut.
The three men were charged with three counts related to cybercrime. These include conspiracy to commit fraud, impersonation, and obtaining money under false pretenses amounting to ₦18,264,700 (Eighteen Million, Two Hundred and Sixty-Four Thousand, Seven Hundred Naira).
One of the charges states: “That you Raymond Charles Yafetus, Auwal Ibrahim, and Babangida Yahaya Ibrahim (who is currently on the run) between April and June 2026 in Abuja, with the intent to defraud, did impersonate Adekunle Tunde Olaoluwa, known as Tunde Ednut. In that assumed identity, you opened bank accounts in various Nigerian banks and obtained ₦18,264,700 (Eighteen Million, Two Hundred and Sixty Four Thousand, Seven Hundred Naira) from unsuspecting members of the public. This act goes against Section 22(2)(b)(ii) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition Prevention etc) Act 2015 and is punishable under Section (22)(b)(iv) of the same Act.
The accused men pleaded “not guilty” to the charges when they were read in court. Following this, the prosecution lawyer, Elizabeth Alabi, asked the court to set a trial date and to keep the defendants at Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.
Justice Ibrahim agreed and ordered their remand at Kuje Correctional Centre. The case has been postponed until November 17, 2026.
