President Bola Tinubu has given the go-ahead to upgrade the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, to the Federal University of Mining, Engineering and Technology, Nasarawa.

This upgrade is part of President Tinubu’s plan to improve technical education, grow human skills, and tap into Nigeria’s rich solid minerals resources.

The approval came after Senator Ahmed Aliyu from Nasarawa West Senatorial District proposed the idea. He argued that a specialized institution is needed to maximize Nasarawa State’s strengths in the solid minerals sector and aid Nigeria’s industrial growth.

According to the presidential directive, the new university will offer top-notch education, research, and innovation in fields like mining, engineering, mineral processing, metallurgy, manufacturing, and new technologies. It will also train the skilled workforce needed for better value addition, technology progress, and responsible use of the country’s mineral resources.

This approval shows President Tinubu’s aim to align Nigeria’s higher education with national development goals under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He wants to create specialized institutions that will meet the country’s economic needs and take advantage of its strengths.

The president has instructed the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Universities Commission (NUC), and other relevant agencies to start the steps needed to make this change happen, following the right laws and regulations.

President Tinubu also stressed that his government will keep investing in education. He sees education as a key part of economic growth, innovation, job creation, and national success.
