The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Katsina State has chosen Governor Dikko Radda to lead its Tinubu/Dikko 2027 Campaign Council. The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, will serve as the director-general of the council.

This council will manage the party’s campaigns for the presidential and governorship positions in the state as the 2027 general elections approach.

The inauguration of the council is set for Saturday at the new APC State Secretariat along Dutsin-Ma Expressway in Katsina.

Governor Radda’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, shared the news on Wednesday in a statement. This was based on a list from APC State Publicity Secretary Shamsu Sule Funtua.

Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal will be the first co-chairman. Former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika and former Secretary to the State Government Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa will be the second and third co-chairmen, respectively.

Bashir Saulawa is named deputy chairman. Abdulkadir Nasir, Bala Musawa, and Adnan Nahabu will be the deputy directors-general for operations, coordination, and administration.

Bature Umar Masari, Ya’u Umar Gwajo-Gwajo, and Badamasi Charanchi will act as zonal directors for Katsina South, North, and Central. Abdullahi Turaji is the secretary-general.

Former governors Aminu Masari and Ibrahim Shema are among the grand patrons. They are joined by current and former lawmakers, political office holders, and party members.

An advisory committee will assist the campaign leaders. Abdullahi Imam will chair this committee, with Tanimu Kurfi as the deputy chairman.

The APC announced 21 directorates covering areas like finance, research, planning, media, legal services, security, mobilisation, welfare, religious affairs, and more.

Ahmed Abdulkadir Bakori will lead media and publicity. Malik Anas will manage finance, while Musa Adamu will head contact and mobilisation.

Aisha Malumfashi and Sirajo Abukur will coordinate women and youth mobilisation, respectively. There will also be directorates for indigenous groups, entertainment, and people with special needs.

The party plans to set up local government and ward committees across Katsina’s 34 local government areas and 361 political wards.

But, the membership lists for these committees and the additional directorate members have not been released yet.

This new council follows earlier efforts by groups backing Mr Tinubu and Mr Radda.

In August, Mr Radda appointed coordinators for the APC Zalla Movement across all of Katsina’s local government areas and wards.

He also participated in the September launch of the Katsina chapter of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement. He encouraged members to work with existing party structures and directly engage with residents.

The APC has not clarified how these new committees will connect with the current mobilisation groups.

The announcement came when the APC inaugurated its national Presidential Campaign Council on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

This national council is separate from the Katsina campaign team.

In another statement, Mr Mohammed named Mr Radda as the state coordinator for the presidential campaign. The governor congratulated Katsina indigenes who were appointed to the national team.

Mr Radda urged them to boost grassroots mobilisation and support the president’s re-election.

“Your inauguration comes with significant responsibilities and expectations. I charge you to use your experience, leadership ability, and political networks for effective grassroots mobilisation, wider public engagement, and stronger support for President Tinubu’s re-election,” he said.

The governor also called for unity among campaign officials and asked them to avoid internal conflicts.

These appointments happen as Mr Radda gets ready to run for a second term as governor.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has listed him among the final candidates for the Katsina governorship election on 6 February 2027. Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal will be his running mate.

The list also includes former senator Ahmad Kaita as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate and Garba Lado as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate.

Mr Radda was elected governor on the APC platform in 2023.
