President Bola Tinubu has named Y. M. Bichi, the former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), as the chairman of the Governing Board of the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS). The NISS is located at Lower Usuma Dam in Abuja.

President Tinubu approved Mr. Bichi’s appointment after receiving a recommendation from the current DG-DSS, Oluwatosin Ajayi.

Mr. Bichi will serve an initial term of four years starting from 22nd October 2026. This is in line with Section 4 of the National Institute for Security Studies (Establishment) Act, 2019.

He will take over from A.A. Gadzama on the Governing Board. Mr. Bichi handed over the DSS leadership to the current Director-General in August 2024.

Mr. Bichi started his career in the Security Division of the Kano State Cabinet Office before moving to other roles in 1984. His background includes years of experience in intelligence, security management, and training.
