President Bola Tinubu has told the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to look into the activities of a group called the “Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council” (PFIPC) and all issues linked to it.
He wants the investigation finished and a detailed report sent to him within 30 days.
This order comes after officials found out that the PFIPC is fake. It was never set up by the Federal Government of Nigeria and has no legal backing, presidential approval, or any lawful act from the government.
A man named Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew claimed to be the Director-General of this fake PFIPC and falsely said he was a presidential appointee.
The ICPC will look into several matters. This includes investigating forged appointment letters and other official documents. They will also check how the false claim of a presidential appointment was used to get official recognition and diplomatic support, like visa facilitation. Additionally, they will explore the opening of several bank accounts in the names of fake government agencies using what are believed to be forged documents.
President Tinubu has directed the ICPC to not only investigate the main individual and their partners but also to look at the broader situation that allowed this fake group and false presidential claim to seem legitimate.
The investigation will focus on how the fake official documents were created and used. It will also look into how official recognition or diplomatic support was sought or obtained. They will check the opening and management of any related bank accounts, the source and movement of any funds involved, and the role of any public officer, private individual, or financial institution that may have helped this scheme.
The President also instructed the Commission to find out any weaknesses in government and institutional procedures that might have been misused. They should suggest immediate steps to stop similar issues from happening again.
All ministries, departments, and agencies of the Federal Government must give the ICPC any necessary information, records, and help they need to finish the investigation quickly.
President Tinubu emphasized that the integrity of the Presidency and the institutions of the Federal Government must be safeguarded against impersonation, forgery, and abuse of official identity. He directed that anyone found guilty should face the law appropriately.
