President Bola Tinubu has promised to make life easier for Nigerians by lowering food and transport costs. He plans to do this by reducing agricultural production costs and improving how food gets to people. In his Independence Day speech on Thursday, he talked about changing focus from just economic reforms to making sure more Nigerians can enjoy prosperity.
Mr Tinubu said the government would work on expanding mechanised irrigation and dry-season farming. He also mentioned providing better access to seeds and fertilisers. There will be investment in storage and transport facilities to help farmers produce more and lower food prices.
He emphasized that the main goal is to lower the cost of living for everyone. This means making it cheaper to produce and transport goods that Nigerians use every day. He wants to ensure that any savings from better productivity and infrastructure will show in market prices.
“Our priority is to bring down the cost of living. We will achieve this by lowering the cost of producing and moving the things Nigerians consume,” the president said.
Mr Tinubu believes Nigeria has enough land and people to feed itself. He is dedicated to boosting agricultural production and linking farms to markets. This will be done through better roads, railways, and ports.
He pointed out that cutting down on losses after harvest, improving access to farm inputs, and reducing transport costs will help make food cheaper for families. Many households are facing rising living costs, and this plan aims to support them.
