An All Progressives Congress leader, Banwo Mayowa, has called for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. He wants Nigerians to support ongoing policies and give the government time to solidify its economic reforms and infrastructure projects.
Mayowa, who was a member of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, made his statement on Friday in Abuja. He admitted that the reforms started since May 2023 have caused serious difficulties for families and businesses. But he believes the government needs more time to deal with the country’s long-standing challenges.
“These decisions have imposed considerable pressure on households and businesses, and the hardship experienced by Nigerians must never be dismissed,” he said. Mayowa added that continuity should not mean blindly supporting government policies. Instead, it should involve fixing weaknesses, improving how things are done, and ensuring that citizens benefit from these reforms.
He pointed out that Nigeria recorded a 4.43 percent growth in gross domestic product in the second quarter of 2026, up from 4.23 percent in the same period of 2025. He emphasized that this growth should lead to better living standards for the people.
“The priority must be to sustain growth while ensuring that it translates into stronger purchasing power, more employment, lower production costs, and improved living standards,” he said. The APC leader stressed the need for faster infrastructure development, especially in roads, electricity, and transportation. He also called for clear procurement processes and proper use of public funds.
“Nigerians deserve infrastructure that works, not merely announcements of projects,” he added. On youth empowerment, he urged the government to invest more in technical education, digital skills, vocational training, and small businesses to create jobs.
He also spoke about the need for affordable food and support for vulnerable families. He called for better agricultural productivity, storage, transportation, and targeted social protection. “The purpose of economic reform is not to celebrate statistics; it is to improve people’s lives,” Mayowa said.
He warned that just because there is continuity does not mean poor performance should be accepted. He urged voters to consider political options based on their policies and ability to deliver results. Mayowa, who was a personal assistant to the late Dr Doyin Okupe, said Tinubu’s second term should focus on job creation, infrastructure, productive investment, education, and accountability.
“For me, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves the opportunity to consolidate the reforms his administration has initiated,” he said, adding that the next phase should focus on clear improvements in citizens’ lives.
