England striker Ivan Toney has pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm. This follows an alleged incident at a nightclub in central London.
On Thursday, the 30-year-old footballer appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court. He confirmed his name and age before saying he was not guilty.
Toney is accused of headbutting and punching Saber Da Silva at a nightclub on Wardour Street, Soho, on December 6.
District Judge Briony Clarke mentioned that the case could be heard at the magistrates’ court. But Toney chose to have it tried at a Crown Court with a judge and jury.
Toney was released on unconditional bail. He is set to appear at Southwark Crown Court on October 29.
The claims against Toney have not been proven in court, and he denies the charge.
Toney has earned 10 caps for England and was part of the team that made it to the Euro 2024 final.
He started his professional career with Northampton Town. After that, he played for Wigan Athletic and Peterborough United.
In 2020, he joined Brentford and later moved to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, where he currently plays.
