Football's transfer market has changed a lot, with teams spending huge amounts. But one name still stands out above the rest.

According to BBC Sport on Wednesday, Neymar's £200 million transfer from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 is still the biggest deal in football history. Nearly ten years later, this transfer still shocks fans and players alike.

Neymar's move changed how clubs think about spending money. PSG used his release clause to make him the first player to cross the £200 million mark, a number that seemed impossible back then.

But other players are getting closer to that record.

Kylian Mbappé is second on the list. His transfer from Monaco to PSG cost around £163 million. This deal was another big moment for PSG, who hold the top two spots in this ranking.

Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho is in third place. His transfer to Barcelona in 2018 was worth around £142 million, including extra payments, after long talks between the two clubs.

After that, more record-breaking transfers happened.

Alexander Isak's £125 million move to Liverpool in 2025 made him one of the most expensive players in history. The following year, Enzo Fernández moved from Chelsea to Manchester City for the same amount, putting him on par with Isak.

The spending spree continued.

PSG winger Bradley Barcola reportedly cost around £123 million in 2026. Chelsea also spent about £117 million on Morgan Rogers. Florian Wirtz's transfer to Liverpool was worth around £116.5 million, making him one of the ten most expensive players ever.

Manchester City then added another big name to the list with Elliot Anderson. His transfer from Nottingham Forest in 2026 was reported at around £116 million.

The last spot in the top ten goes to João Félix. His 2019 transfer from Benfica to Atlético Madrid cost about £112.9 million.

These numbers show how much football has changed.

Once, a £100 million transfer seemed impossible. Now, clubs regularly reach and even exceed that figure for top young players.

But Neymar's £200 million still stands tall.

For now, the Brazilian's record holds strong.

As transfer fees keep going up, fans wonder if the £200 million mark will ever be broken.
