Troops from Operation ENDURING PEACE have rescued two people who were kidnapped in Bassa and Kanam Local Government Areas of Plateau State. The Joint Task Force shared this news on Wednesday.

Operation ENDURING PEACE is the military force handling counter-terrorism and security operations in Plateau State.

A statement from the Joint Task Force's Media Information Officer, Captain Chinonso Oteh, says these rescues are part of their ongoing operations in Plateau State.

The statement mentions that these efforts aim to limit the actions of terrorist groups in the state. It also says there have been successes, confirmed by some eyewitnesses and community leaders.

Details reveal that on Tuesday, 25 August 2025, at about 9:00 AM, troops in sector 3, stationed in Bassa Local Government Area, acted on reliable information about the kidnapping of Mr. Ndubuisi Onuigbo. They started a search and rescue operation that successfully led to his rescue.

In another operation, troops rescued another victim in Kanam LGA.

On Wednesday, 26 August 2026, in the early hours, troops from sector 2 of Operation ENDURING PEACE, who were in Kukawa village in Kanam Local Government Area, encountered suspected terrorists during a patrol. The troops chased the terrorists, resulting in the immediate rescue of Mallam Sambo Abdullahi, who was left behind by the fleeing kidnappers.

Captain Oteh mentioned that the rescued victims have been safely debriefed and reunited with their families.

The Commander of Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Maxwell Dangana, praised the troops for their actions during these operations.

He also urged everyone to remain calm and cautious, and to continue supporting the troops to help restore peace in the area. The statement concluded with Major General Dangana commending the troops for their skill and determination in stopping criminal activities and working to bring back peace and safety in the region.
