Tunisia has decided to fire coach Sabri Lamouchi after their 5-1 loss to Sweden in the World Cup. The Tunisian Football Federation made this announcement on national TV on Monday, saying they have hired Frenchman Herve Renard as his replacement.
Lamouchi is now the first coach in World Cup history to be fired after just one game.
Herve Renard previously led Saudi Arabia to an unexpected win over Argentina at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. After that, he coached the France women’s team.
Moez Nassari, the president of the Tunisian Football Federation, said they have reached an official agreement with Renard. He will lead the national team until the end of the 2026 World Cup.
Lamouchi, who is 54 years old, took charge of the team in January. During his time, he managed to win only one of his five matches. That win was a 1-0 victory against Haiti.
The heavy defeat to Sweden puts Tunisia in a difficult position as they try to advance to the knockout stage. They will play Japan in their next Group F match on Saturday. After that, they will face the Netherlands.
