Uba Sani expects Tinubu to win Kaduna in 2027 elections

The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, believes that President Bola Tinubu will get between 70 and 80 percent of the votes in Kaduna during the 2027 presidential election.

Mr Sani shared this prediction on Thursday while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today show, which was watched by PREMIUM TIMES.

The governor explained that his view comes from looking at political trends, voting history, and what he calls the Tinubu administration’s effects on Kaduna State.

He rejected claims that the APC’s growing presence in the state is just political talk. He said the people of Kaduna understand politics well and are increasingly judging leaders by their actions.

“Kaduna, just write it down, put it down that I, Uba Sani, am saying Asiwaju will get nothing less than between 70 percent to 80 percent votes,” the governor stated.

Changes in Southern Kaduna's Politics

Governor Sani noted that the political situation that influenced the 2023 election in Southern Kaduna has shifted a lot.

He mentioned that many voters in Southern Kaduna backed opposition parties in 2023, mainly because many key leaders from the area, like senators and House of Representatives members, were with those opposition parties.

According to him, this has changed, with several of those leaders now joining the APC.

He specifically pointed out Senator Sunday Katung, who used to lead the opposition to the APC but is now part of the ruling party.

“No one forced them,” Mr Sani said, linking this change to the projects and efforts of the Tinubu administration in Kaduna.

New Developments in Kaduna

Mr Sani highlighted the creation of a federal university of science and technology in Kachia and a federal medical centre in Kafanchan as projects that could boost support for Mr Tinubu in the state.

He said the people of Kaduna, especially those who have often felt ignored, are asking for real development instead of just political promises.

The governor mentioned that he has talked to Tinubu about the need for better infrastructure in Kaduna.

The establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia and a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan have also been noted by Southern Kaduna political leaders as important steps for development.

Debt Challenges in Kaduna

The governor also revealed that Kaduna State pays N6.7 billion every month to service loans that were taken by past administrations.

He said this repayment will last until 2048.

Mr Sani emphasized that his government has not taken any new loans since he became governor in May 2023.

“Since I became governor, I have not borrowed one kobo,” he said, adding that this can be confirmed by the Debt Management Office.

Still, he said the debt does not stop his government from investing in development, but it does require careful management of the state’s finances.

Investigation of El-Rufai

Mr Sani’s mention of inherited debts comes as his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, faces legal issues.

Mr El-Rufai, who was governor from 2015 to 2023, is currently held by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) due to court orders.

The ICPC has charged the former governor with corruption, abuse of office, and money laundering, which are pending in court.

The commission has also filed an updated 11-count charge about an N8.68 billion CCTV contract.

The ICPC stated that Mr El-Rufai remains in lawful custody under a court order. A Kaduna State High Court denied his recent bail request on medical grounds in June 2026.

Mr El-Rufai has denied any wrongdoing and continues to contest his detention and the legal proceedings.
