Governor Uba Sani has raised the salaries and allowances for emirs, chiefs, district heads, and village heads in Kaduna State.
On Wednesday, the Commissioner of Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, shared this news in a statement. He said the increase affects traditional rulers in all three senatorial districts.
The statement included remarks from the Commissioner of Local Government Affairs, Sadiq Mamman Lagos. He said the increase aims to improve the welfare of traditional rulers and help them perform their duties better at the local level.
Mr. Maiyaki also mentioned that Governor Uba Sani approved monthly security allowances for all 35 emirates and chiefdoms in Kaduna State. This will take effect from 1st September 2026.
The security allowance is intended to boost intelligence gathering at the grassroots level. It will also support security agencies in dealing with crime and other security issues.
Mr. Mamman Lagos added that these actions show the government's recognition of traditional institutions as key partners in local governance, peace efforts, conflict resolution, and security.
"Our traditional rulers are the custodians of our communities and a critical link between government and the people. Their closeness to the grassroots puts them in a good position to spot new threats, share timely information, and resolve issues before they become bigger problems."
"With this added support comes more responsibility. We expect our royal fathers to work harder to promote peaceful living, build trust, and encourage harmony among different ethnic and religious groups in their areas," he said.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture stressed that these approvals show Governor Uba Sani's commitment to strengthening traditional institutions. He wants to give them the support needed to help with peace, security, and development.
Maiyaki pointed out that traditional rulers are an important link between the government, security agencies, and communities. They play a big part in gathering information, engaging with the community, and promoting peaceful living.
He called on residents to keep cooperating with traditional institutions and security agencies. They should provide timely and reliable information to protect lives and property, ensuring a safer and more prosperous state for everyone.
