The University of Calabar (UniCal) has suspended 19 students for cheating in exams. This decision came after the Students’ Disciplinary Committee made recommendations.
A letter signed by the Director of Administration, Citizen Ekpo, was shared on Tuesday in Calabar. This letter was on behalf of the Registrar, Chukwuka Icha, and was made public by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Effiong Eyo, the university’s spokesperson, spoke to NAN about the suspension. He explained that the suspension followed approval from the university’s senate after they reviewed the committee’s recommendations.
The suspended students will not attend classes for one academic session, which covers the 2025/2026 session. Eyo added, “The university has said the students would resume their studies in the 2026/2027 academic session.”
The affected students come from various faculties. These include administration, social sciences, biological sciences, arts, education, allied medical sciences, pharmacy, and environmental sciences.
Additionally, some students are from nursing science, peace and conflict studies, science laboratory technology, estate management, marketing, and similar departments.
Eyo mentioned that the university instructed all deans, heads of departments, and relevant units to enforce the suspension. They must ensure everyone follows the directive.
