The US launched new strikes on Iran early Sunday morning. This attack was a response to an Iranian strike on a ship in the Strait of Hormuz.

At 7:15 p.m. ET, U.S. Central Command forces started the third round of strikes this week against Iran. They acted after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attacked M/V GFS Galaxy, a container ship from Cyprus. This ship was passing through the Strait of Hormuz. A crew member is missing, and the ship cannot continue its journey because of a fire and serious engine damage, according to a post from US Central Command on X.

Iran confirmed the strikes. Local news IRNA reported that an Iranian official said US forces hit five cities in Bushehr province. These cities include Asaluyeh, Dir, Bushehr, Dashti, and Tangestan.

In response, Iran launched attacks targeting American interests in Gulf countries. This included strikes on Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Jordan.

In Qatar, officials reported that at least three people were hurt by debris from intercepted missiles.

Both countries blame each other for breaking the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) they signed. The US claims Iran is attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran, on the other hand, accuses the US of trying to set up a route in the Strait where ships can pass without getting Iranian approval. Iran argues that the MoU requires its permission for ships to pass freely through the Strait.
