The police in Anambra State have arrested a woman known as ‘Ezenwanyi’ after three children were discovered dead in her home.
The incident happened in Umuoduba Village, Ideani, located in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Reports say four children, aged between 6 and 15, were found in her shrine when police arrived on Wednesday, but sadly, three of them were confirmed dead.
A video shared on Facebook shows the woman taking police officers into her house, where the bodies of the children were found.
The video, viewed by many, showed the deceased children while some officers searched the suspect’s home.
Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesman in Anambra State, confirmed the events in a statement on Wednesday night, though he did not mention her as a spiritualist.
“After receiving the information, the rescue team from Ogidi Police station quickly took the victims to the hospital for emergency care.
“Unfortunately, three of the children were confirmed dead by doctors, while the fourth child is currently getting treatment in critical condition,” said Mr Ikenga, a superintendent of police.
Ikenga confirmed that the woman is still in police custody related to this case. He said the State Criminal Investigation Department will take over to carry out a proper and detailed investigation.
He noted that the police hope that the survivor will be able to provide information that can help clarify what happened in this tragic case.
“The bodies of the deceased children have been taken to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy,” he said.
Mr Ikenga expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and the people of the Ideani Community.
He urged everyone to stay calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and allow the police to finish their investigations.
“Updates will be shared as the investigation continues,” he assured.
